The OS 9 installation works on computers that have been started up under OS 9, it does not work in Classic mode (on a computer that has been started up in OS X.)

If Monks requires that Quicktime be installed on your computer. If you do not have Quicktime installed, get it here:

http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/

1. Install "Mac OS 9 install".

2. Drag the 150 megabyte "MonksBits" folder from the CD-ROM into your hard drive (but not inside of any folders inside your hard drive). In other words, the MonkBits folder must be placed at the same level in your file system as the "System Folder."

This is the tricky part of the installation so I will explain it in a different way. The MonkBits folder was what remained on the CD when this was sold as a CD-ROM. The Monks program looks for "MonkBits" just inside any "disk" or "drive" you have installed, but it does not peek into any of your folders.

(steps 3 - 6 update the Sophie ebook library with updated editions and a new ebook.)

3. Locate and open up your "If Monks..." folder.

4. Drag your old "Sophie Folder" from the "If Monks..." folder to the directly to the trash if you haven't yet created any Sophie notebooks. (you have follow the more detailed instructions inside the Sophie_Classic_ereader update.)

5. Install the Sophie_Classic_ereader update.

6. Drag the new "Sophie Folder" from the folder this installer opens up on your hard drive into the "If Monks..." folder (where the old version of Sophie had been).

Launch Monks by double-clicking on the Launcher in the If Monks had Macs folder.
